What is Hondo?

Hondo is a word-guessing game in which the more words you accurately anticipate in a row, the more points you receive. The goal is to score a Hondo (100 points) in the fewest amount of turns possible.

Rules of the Game

• When you get a code word, the game goes on to the next one. The last five guesses remain as hints on the board.
• Keep a watch on your energy gauge: each erroneous guess depletes one bar, while each correct guess restores one bar. If your energy is out, the game is over.
• Each correct guess is worth one point. Correct guesses in a row get you bonus points.
• The goal is to score 100 points (a Hondo) as rapidly as possible.

Tips and Tricks

• First, attempt words using common letters.
• Maintain your concentration on the keyboard. Highlighted keys have been recognized; darker keys do not appear in the code word.
• Shuffles and skips are necessary. They can help you out of a jam or allow you to extend streaks for bonus points.
• When you need more information, shuffle it; skip it when you're near to the code word but there are too many alternatives to guess correctly.
• Keep in mind that letters in the code word may repeat.
• There is a method to "cheat" and glance at the board before making your last move...
• Be patient; haste costs money. A high score requires logic, strategy, and luck.
